A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a person before, during, and after childbirth. The term originates from the Modern Greek word doulē or dúla, meaning “female servant” or “female helper” adopted in the 1960s to describe women who serve, assist, and support other women.
